Important notice: the campaign to save the life of Azad has undergone a change

Rome, January 2nd, 2011. The campaign to save the life of Azad has undergone a change. Unfortunately, Norway regularly deports gay people who have escaped from regimes that repress, condemn and often kill gays and lesbians. Recently, out of 52 homosexual asylum seekers (with documented evidence) over 40 have had their applications turned down and been deported. No one in Norway, not even the LGBT associations, offers protection to homosexual refugees. We wish to point out, however, that the name of young gay man in this campaign is incorrect and does not correspond to the Iraqi refugee now in danger of deportation. This error is the result of policies taken by the Norwegian authorities that prevent civil society finding out the true names of the gay victims of these deportations. From now on, we will only use his first name "Azad", and promote the campaign, not for a single individual in danger of deportation, but for all those hit by homophobic policies that violate the Geneva Convention on Refugees, and cause dozens of humanitarian tragedies every year.
